I’ve come across a few people who don’t like it when you thank them for faving your art and go so far as to put a notice of it on their profile and/or signature, and even chew people out for thanking them. While I can kind of see the logic in asking artists not to thank them (whether they think the artist feels obligated to or the thanks feels impersonal), I personally like thanking people for faving my art or watching me. When I leave a comment on someone’s profile, it’s not because I feel obligated to, it’s because I’m more than grateful that someone out there appreciates my work enough for it to warrant a fave or a watch. 

But that’s just me. I don’t do it because it’s the “thing” to do, I do it because I sincerely mean every thank-you comment I leave on people’s profiles. I wish those people that chide others for thanking them would know that not everyone on dA does it because they feel obligated to. :c

And by “big deal” I mean the typical complaints you see about them. In the grand scheme of things, they mean nothing. They don’t represent how good an artist is or even a person’s personality.
