artist-confessions

In my first year of college, I got a lot of compliments for my art.
But one time, someone told me, “I love your style. It’s a shame you’re fat.”
I really don’t mind any criticisms, and I relish on them to improve. But I don’t think my art should be measured by the fact that I may or may not be overweight. I don’t think anyone’s art should be.
The image is a character of mine.

I have the biggest body issues and my style represents my ideals of beauty. It’s really painful to look at my pretty characters by now.

Who is beautiful, I shut down.

Drawing is my means of feeling happy and confident about what I am not. For those moments, I can escape to be the character.

So as stupid as this sounds, artists who are beautiful and friendly make me so jealous. No one will ever know I feel this way though.
