This is actually the first time I’m bringing this up. It really IS a confession!
Have you ever done something you were so proud of, but as time went by, you grew more ashamed and disgusted that you did it? This is that for me. I felt so proud to say “that’s my drawing!” when I saw the yearbook. Teachers and classmates would find me and ask if I was the one who won the yearbook contest—of course I said yes with great enthusiasm. My friends were in awe at my “great drawing skills” which I now look at with disgust. How could I trace a picture and call it mine? Sure, I was 13 or so at the time, but that’s not an excuse! It’s one thing to trace pictures and leave it as that, but to enter said traced images into a contest is…. well, it’s gross.
Luckily, I’ve grown up. I don’t trace anymore, and I try my hardest to erase these things from my past. They won’t disappear, but they will fade as I work on my skills and make them great.
Remember kids—don’t trace and claim it. If you traced it, it’s not yours. :|
