Ahhh, what a dumb title. ANYWAY, figured I’d pass some positivity to this dramu llamu blog.

It think its very well safe to say that for many artists, when they see an amazing piece of work and found out its by someone younger than them, they want to fall to their knees and weep. Myself included!! You’ve been putting so much effort into your work just to find out there’s someone younger and better than you. Then you start wishing you  had paid more attention to improving your art when you were younger. The horror and inadequacy!

However, we need to put those feelings of inadequacy aside! It’s important to know that everyone learns something new at their own pace! Its only natural that some people will learn faster, while others will learn slower. Feeling down and beating yourself about not being at a specific stage on your art journey will not accomplish anything. it’s a waste of time! Instead of complaining about your art, spend as much time as you can working on your weak areas and learning new techniques. Keep focused on what YOU can do and not anyone else. You may be surprised at how much you’ve excelled if you put a lot of effort into it! It could be in a short space of time too!

Besides, just because a person younger than you draws better than you, doesn’t make them super, uber superior. It just means they have also worked very hard to get to the level they are now from an earlier time and were probably more aware of helpful resources they could tend to.  They wouldn’t get it by sitting and complaining about why they aren’t good enough.

I DO know that many artists get into this phase and I have gone through them myself . But remember that the only way you can go is up from whatever skills you currently have and that’s what matters. Think of all those well known artists who bring us the wonderfully animated cartoons/films, fine art and illustrations we all know and love. Those people must be well over their 30’s-40’s  and higher but their works never fail to amaze us. So should age really matter that much???

I’m pretty sure some younger artists would be sick and tired or possibly feel guilty of hearing people older than them wail about how bad their art is compared to their own. Age shouldn’t matter,  art is art and should be respected for its effort and creativity. Not to mention that the world is full of weird and wonderful things  to learn and depict in your own way as you age so no matter how much you achieve in your path, there is always something new to learn!

So the next time you see an impressive piece of work by someone of a younger age, try not to be put off! Learn from it! And think on what you could do to get to their level and higher. Don‘t hold back! And who knows? You may even excel above their own skills!

Hope this helps a little, and good luck with all your endeavours~!
